Privacy Policy

We respect your privacy and want you to understand what information we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control it.

Information we collect

  • Account details such as name, email, and authentication identifiers.
  • Learning activity: lesson progress, practice attempts, feedback, and preferences.
  • Audio you record for pronunciation analysis and same-page playback during the current practice view.
  • Device and usage data (browser, device type, IP-derived region, timestamps) to maintain security and performance.
  • Billing information processed by our payment provider; we do not store full payment card numbers.
  • Optional survey responses such as self-assessed pronunciation level, prior learning tools, motivation, and country, collected for research and product improvement.

How we use data

  • Provide the service, personalize exercises, and surface relevant content.
  • Analyze audio to deliver pronunciation scores and coaching.
  • Monitor reliability, prevent abuse, and secure accounts.
  • Improve the product through optional product analytics when you have enabled it, and through necessary reliability and security records.
  • Communicate with you about updates, billing, and support.

Optional product analytics

PostHog, Plausible, and Google Analytics do not load until you explicitly enable product analytics. When enabled, product events may include a pseudonymous account or device identifier, session identifier, app version, target language, event outcome, device metadata, referral or campaign context, and IP-derived region. We do not send your name, email address, phrase text, translation, transcript, or raw recording to these analytics tools.

Leaving the choice unresolved or turning analytics off prevents optional analytics events. You can change this choice at any time in Settings. Product analytics is not the source of truth for your account, learning progress, billing, or service-delivery records.

Sharing and third parties

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers that help us run Spokira (for example: cloud hosting, analytics, payment processing, email delivery, and voice/AI infrastructure). These providers are bound by contracts to protect your data and use it only as instructed.

For a complete list of the third-party services we use, see our Subprocessors & Third-Party Vendors page.

Practice recording lifecycle

When you press Record, your browser keeps the recording temporarily for replay in the current practice view and uploads it to Spokira's application and pronunciation-analysis services to provide the feedback you requested. The current product does not save raw learner audio to your account or send it to product analytics. The temporary browser copy is removed when it is replaced or the practice view closes; the application and analysis services process the upload for the request and do not intentionally persist the raw file.

We do save derived learning records such as the phrase and session identifiers, audio duration and file size, scores, word scores, and coaching feedback. Textual coaching may send the exercise text, translation, target and native language, and derived pronunciation errors to our AI provider; it does not include your raw recording. Saving recordings to personal history or contributing recordings to research is not currently available and would require a separate, explicit choice before launch.

Data retention and security

We retain account and derived learning records only for as long as needed to provide the service or comply with legal obligations. Raw practice recordings are not currently retained in account history or used for research or model evaluation. You can request access, export, or deletion of retained account and learning data by contacting support. We use encryption in transit, restricted access, and regular monitoring to safeguard information, though no method is perfectly secure.

Research and aggregate reporting

We may collect optional survey responses during onboarding or in-app prompts, such as self-assessed pronunciation level, prior learning tools used, motivation for learning, and country of residence. These fields are always voluntary and can be skipped without affecting your experience.

We use this data only in anonymized, aggregate form for published research and language learning reports (for example, "State of French Pronunciation for English Speakers"). No individual responses are ever published or shared in identifiable form. You may request deletion of your survey responses at any time by contacting support.

Your choices and rights

  • Access, correct, or delete your account data by contacting support.
  • Export key learning records or close your account upon request.
  • Opt out of non-essential marketing emails via the unsubscribe link.
  • Manage optional analytics from Spokira Settings; leaving the choice unresolved keeps analytics off.

Children

Spokira is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under that age. If you believe a child has provided us data, please let us know so we can remove it.
